Identification and Classification of Prickly Ash

 Research Objective

Picture
Prickly Ash, as an important spice and oil bearing crop, is widely distributed in all parts of China. Because of historical, geographical and human factors, in the process from wild to cultivated domestication, a large number of varieties have formed. As they are usually categorized by different basis, these varieties have quite a few different names.  In terms of scientific research and production, there are varieties of clutter and the name confusion problems. Although there is a wide variety of artificial breeding varieties, the types and characteristics of these varieties are no breakthroughs. Identification and classification of these species are important for Prickly Ash breading research.

In this research 6 varieties at two locations were identified and classified through cluster analysis of 9 morphology characteristics. Cluster and correlation analysis were conducted to determine the genetic relationship between different varieties and correlation of morphology characteristics.

Another part of this research is to compare the fat content of different varieties at different locations, because that can represent the Prickly Ash quality.

After analyzing the data conclusions can be drawn that: 1. In location Xian, variety Xiao and Dou  have more similarity in genetic relationships. 2. In location Cheng, variety Da, Sha and Gou have close genetic relationship. 3. Plant traits and fruit traits have significant correlation. 4. Among all the 6 varieties both at Xian and Cheng, variety Da and Xiao have the same higher fat content.
